What is acne?

Acne is a medical problem that might not amount to anything legitimately serious in terms of a life or death situation, but it is an issue that causes those affected a lot of pain, both physically and emotionally. When my acne is bad, even now that I am an adult, it can ruin my entire day before it starts. It causes us to be self-conscious and stressed out. It kills our confidence and hinders our ability to be successful.

We live every day worried about an impending breakout and envy everyone with better skin than ours. Acne of all levels of severity can have real psychological ramifications, it makes us want to isolate and hide from the world. Most of us have thrown our hands in the air, frustrated and convinced that we have tried everything to get clear skin. But one treatment you do not often hear about, one that can be extremely effective, is coconut oil.

How to treat acne?

Acne treatment is a billion-dollar industry and it is no surprise that when you go to any drug store there is an aisle filled with hundreds of products that all claim to do the same thing, free us from suffering from zits and blemishes. The fact of the matter is that this is just greedy business people trying to take our money by exploiting the common problems of common people. The reason it is a basic rip off is that there are only a couple active ingredients in these over the counter treatments that do anything to fight and prevent acne: Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic acid. They two pieces of the puzzle are repackaged in any way imaginable, endorsed by a myriad of celebrities, and touted over and over again as the one solution that will finally cure our faces.

Acne treatment – coconut oil

Trying something new is the only way we will see results. Coconut oil is a versatile item that has been proven to help with a plethora of ailments, including acne. The big wigs at pharmaceutical companies have not made a huge effort to try and make money off it yet. It is a natural remedy that is easily accessible and quite inexpensive. It might seem a bit counter-intuitive to use an oil to treat acne since an oily face is one of the main things that leads to acne in the first place.

But more specifically acne is caused when our pores are blocked with dirt or bacteria. Your face needs oil or else it would be extremely dry and uncomfortable. The reason we think of oil as a bad thing is that during adolescence our hormones are a bit out of whack and this causes our faces to produce an excess amount of oil, which blocks and pores and causes acne. Coconut oil will not have this effect on our face when we use it as a skin treatment.

So why exactly is coconut oil good for our skin?

Because it contains two very powerful acids that help prevent infection. When we are constantly washing our faces trying to combat pimples we are removing these essential acids from our faces. Coconut oil helps to replenish them. Coconut oil also has a high amount of Vitamin E. Many people take Vitamin E supplements to improve their complexion, but instead just integrate coconut oil into your daily routine you’ll have more than enough. It helps to alleviate dryness. When we are washing our faces twice a day and also using alcohol-based pads or cleansers it can leave our faces feeling scorched. The Vitamin E in coconut oil helps the face to retain its natural moisturizers. This is why it is found in most sunscreens, to help with the dryness that comes with extended sun exposure.

Most treatments try to fight acne by drying out your skin. Sometimes this can be effective, no doubt about it. But what it can also do is cause your face to get so dry that your skin turns red and blotchy, even more, unattractive than before. This also starts a cruel cycle where you wash your face to get rid of oil and your face reacts by created, even more, leaving you with that uncomfortable feeling where your skin feels dry but when you look in the mirror your face is shiny. In such cases press a clean tissue against your forehead and it will practically go clear from all the grease on your face.

Coconut oil helps because while it fights zits it maintains the delicate balance of essential elements on your face. Make sure that you get a version that is of quality, you do not want to use coconut oil that has impurities because they could clog your pores and make your acne worse as a result. Also, try to integrate the stuff into your daily diet because it can work from the inside out. This is an especially good way of introduces all the good fats that exist in coconut oil into your body. Butter can exacerbate acne and there is no better butter substitute than coconut oil. In one small change, you can eliminate a cause and can and introduce a solution.

Start with a small amount because a little goes a long way. Start out using a little bit in place of your normal facial lotion. Gently cleanse your face and use a towel to dry it. Once it is dry spread some coconut oil around in your palms and let the heat of your hands cause it to liquefy. Spread it gently around your face and let it absorb. This will help every aspect of your complexion, from zits to dryness. It can be hard to navigate the confusing world of acne and acne treatments, but I strongly recommend that you step away from the chemicals and move toward a much more natural and effective solution. Coconut oil will leave your face looking and feeling amazing for a great price.
